I just brought Fez home from a terrible overnight trip to the vet (he got a polyp in his ear removed as well as being neutered). He is so mad at me now, he won't even look at me!! I can't believe it. He is probably in some minor pains, but mainly uncomfortable from wearing his E-collar. He has been terribly pouting all day and this is just Day One of 14!! I don't know if I can take this. :(

Hopefully he gets over it soon. =(

Awe, poor Fez does look bummed. :( I think Fez will come around. The effects from the anesthetic plays heck on humans, so it's bound to have a smiliar effect on pets. I would think Fez will start to perk up in a day or two. Please give him some kisses and {{{{hugs}}}} for me....when he loosens up on the crabbiness. ;)

Animals can make you feel the worst! Hopefully he'll get used to it and forgive you. He'll definatly forgive you once he gets that off! As for feeling bad, just keep telling yourself that its for his own good bc he could make his condition worse. Good luck!

Those are good points. It is for his own good, but he doesn't know it. :( That's the ONLY bad thing about pets, you can't tell them why you're making their lives miserable. But he should come around. The vet said he was an absolute pleasure to work with and if I ever decide to get rid of Fez, to call him lol. :D That made me feel better. I will just give Fez his space and let him come to me.

Poor Fez -- but cats do tend to let you know when you've done something that has upset them. Are you saying Fez has to wear the E-collar for 14 days? We just had our office cat done about 2 months ago and she returned after a 2 night stay at the vets -- the boss had the vet keep her a bit longer because she is a very active cat and jumps/climbs everywhere and he was worried about her opening the stitches with her activities. She was good all day when we were there but the first night back she removed two stitches and the next night there was only one left in the morning. The incision area was just a tad bumpy and when I called the vet about it he just asked how it looked --- I told him and he said the bumpiness would go down and if it hadn't opened up it would not. So all in all she had her stitches in 4 - 5 days. But then again if Fez is a male cat maybe the stitches need to be in longer. After a week if the collar is driving Fez nuts you might check with the vet and see if it is OK to remove sooner.

Thanks for the advice. I don't think Fez has any stiches (it was on his report "no external sutures to remove"). But he is not allowed to touch or "clean" his ear- he had a skin tumor surgery performed for a polyp in his ear. It is very sensitive so they don't want him touching it at all. I didn't really understand why it needs to be on for 2 whole weeks; if it is still driving him crazy in a week or so I will call them about removing it as long as his ear looks healed enough.

Poor, poor Fez! I agree with Magnum in that the drugs could have a lot to do with Fez being the way he is right now. Cats and dogs HATE those collars and just want them OFF! He doesn't really hate you Jennifer. He is just confused right now. He'll be much better in a few days. Keep us updated on Fez...he is a beautiful cat!

Awww... poor Fez, i'm sure he will start to get used to it after a few days (I hope). Just hang in there, he won't stay mad at you forever, gosh, when I got Cozmo fixed, he hid under the bed for about 5 days and ignored me the whole time, but he was soon back to being a crazy spoiled brat cat again. They are so cute when they are trying to ignore you, I can't help but laugh when they do it. :D

Thanks for the support guys. He seems to be turning around a bit. He's still upset but doesn't seem very sore. And last night he actually slept in my bed with me all night (or at least I think so). The night before that he slept under the bed (not even on the blanky that I put under there for him lol). So he is turning around a bit.

I just have one question. I've never owned an animal that's had to wear an e-collar, so I don't know if this is normal behavior or not. Whenever he shakes his head (from an itch, etc) while he's sitting down, he ends up on only his back legs and about to flip over backwards from no cooridination. I was thinking the painkillers were making him that way plus the irritation and confusion of the collar, so that's why I haven't worried much about it but I just want to make sure it doesn't sound like his equilibrium has been thrown off or anything. That may sound dumb, but I don't know how it works lol (they were working awfully close to his little brain with that laser taking the growth out of his ear!) Who knows, but just thought I'd ask if that sounded normal. Besides, it's not like hes acting normal AT ALL since his surgery, so he's probably recovering normally.
