HELP! Last night I made sushi for my girlfriend. I gave my great dane left over eel, mostly skin. Is sea food bad for dogs? He's been trying to cough something up all night. He ate this morning (kibble) but doesn't want to drink - still an occassional dry-heave.

There are some dogs I've heard of that seem to be able to eat almost anything and others that have a sensitive stomach. I think they've been living with us too long, :). Anyway, in my humble opinion, it appears that skin eel shouldn't be on your dog's menu. Keep an eye on him and if he seems to be having more problems please call your vet.

Hi Charlie. Keep a close eye on your dog as he may be allergic to sea food. We had a dog that almost died from being allergic to sea food. We were on vacation at the time and ran out of his regular dog food ... so we bought another brand. We didn't realize that the food manufacturer has included some sort of sea food in their formula. Anyway, a few hours after our dog ate the food, we noticed that his whole face was swollen. We rushed him to the vet and they examined him. Thank goodness his throat didn't swell up or else he might've died. Anyway, keep a close eye on your dog and make sure that his throat isn't getting swollen as it will impair his breathing. If you notice that your dog is having problems breathing, please take him to the vet ASAP.
If it isn't allergies, then perhaps the eel skin or even the seaweed is just stuck in his throat.
