My 12 week old lab/shepx puppy, I noticed started humping a blanket today. I never had a male dog before, they have always been female. I have no idea what do to, or even how to stop this. He is getting Neutered in October, but I heard if they start this action even before they are neutered they may always hump things. I CAN'T have him doing this!
Please help, any suggestion at all!!

I have no idea. Riley humps everything. But I never discouraged him because he was supposed to be used for breeding. (Not anymore though)

Nuetering doesn't make it go away nor does the sex of the dog matter when it comes to this behavior. My spayed female is sometimes a pillow humper if she doesn't get enough exercise.

It is pretty easy to stop honestly, so don't get stressed. Give a firm "NO" in a deep voice . a deep voice always works better than a girly voice.

When I first started training dogs the trainers I worked under would laugh at my little voice so I had to learn to adjust it LOL

After that take the blanket away and give him a toy and tell him what a good boy he is..... you can even give him a treat for playing with the toy.

what you are doing is redirecting his behavior to a more appropriate activity and training him very positively what is acceptible behavior. You will have to be consistent and eventually he'll get it. Though on occassion he may regress.

Also make sure he gets PLENTY of exercise that will help as well

I agree with Patch, neutering has no effect on this behaviour. Patch has great training advice on curbing this too. I doggie sat a JRT and boy did she have a strong attachment for her bed........ I just took it away from her when started in on it, told her firmly "No" and the act subsided after a few "No's". Good luck and please keep us updated. :)
