Has anyone ever heard anything about the Nylabone dog treats causing allergies in some dogs? About a month ago I switched my 2-year old mixed breed's food and he started to get red around his eyes and snout. I took him to the vet, they recommended I change his food back and gave me cream to put on my dog. I did this and his problems went away almost right away. Yesterday I noticed that around his nose and mouth were all red and I don't know what it could be from other than the Nylabone that I just got for him and my other dog last week. Is this common?

Well I've heard that you shouldn't switch their food because it can cause diarrhea --- but I have never experienced them getting allergies. Anything is possible I guess.

Are you referring to the Nylabone that is inedible (like a permabone) or the edible ones? Not sure what your dog is allergic to but it may be wheat, which is a common one for dogs. Most dog treats and edible bones do contain wheat.

Try a Hypo-allergenic diet, see if condition improves. I'd think it's more likely to be something in regular/new diet causing reaction, rather than the Nylabone, but it's best to keep a strict diet to try and pinpoint cause. It could be a reaction to so many different things, has he had any lab tests ? Return to vet for best possible advice and further treatment, before it gets any worse.

Nylabones are made from pure virgin nylon, which makes them stronger and more durable than Gumabone.
Who know's your dog could be allergic to Nylon?

yes many animals have reactions to switching foods. I have never heard of a dog being allergic to nylabones before though. Often you will find that a dog may become allergic to chicken and if that may be the case try switching to another meat based food like lamb which is hypoallergenic. Another allergy could be the wheat as a lot of the cheaper foods are filling the foods with less meat or absolutely no meat at all and placing more corn and fillers such as wheat into the foods and a lot of dogs can't tolerate this.
