I was wondering if anyone knew if retinal degeneration is common among shar-peis. My dog, that now lives with my parents, suffers from this. He's not full blood shar-pei, we think he might be part black-lab. He's almost completely blind now. It didn't take long either. He went from being fully able to see to being blind in a matter of months. So if anyone has any answers that would be great. He's also epileptic and didn't start losing his sight until after he started having seizures. He gets around pretty well and aside from the seizures (he gets meds for that) and loss of sight he is a very healty dog. He's been blind for over a year now and has adapted to it well.

how old is your dog? cuz age can really matter with that. most average sher peis live to 8-12yrs, but some can live to 16+!

He's 9 I think. He might be 8 I can't remember but his birthday is sometime this month. I've read that it is hereditary but I don't know if that's accurate.
