Hi everyone, I have a quick question. My Bergie (lab) is going to be 4 months old on the 23rd of August. The last two days she has been crying at night and seems to be more hiper than normal. Is it possible that she is going into heat this early? I should mention that she did quiet done after awhile but periodically woke up and was tring to "teeth" on her crate. She also calms down if I place her chain collar and leash on her. However, with that being said...she just isn't the same.
We were training the other day and I had a treat in my hand. She lunged at me and caught my fingers between her teeth or paws and put a pretty good hole in the web of my fingers. Later that night I noticed blood on the backside of my hand that I couldn't explain. My injury wasn't that bad and didn't bleed that bad. Could it be from her? I checked and didn't see anything on her. Thanks for your suggestions in advance. :)

4 months is very young but it could happen. I had a female go in at 5 months and I thought that was early....
Anyway usual signs are discharge and a very swollen back end.
Other signs are moodiness and sometimes they get a bit lazy. It really all depends on the dog
Keep her inside as much as possible. Do not ever leave her out unattended even for a minute if she is in heat.
Don't walk her as you are inviting all the males to try to get at her
It usually lasts 2 weeks to a month some less some more. There are different stages to it as well.
Get her a doggy diapers
LOL and some HUMAN maxi pads as they are cheaper than the dog kind
Are you showing her or getting her fixed? If you aren't showing get her fixed ASAP to avoid the heat cycle. It is a messy pain in the butt honestly
Hope that helps

We are definately getting her fixed as soon as possible. I will ask the vet about this next week. I haven't ever had a dog that was raised from a puppy so this part is new to us. She does sleep and lay around a lot lately but she is also hyper at times too...almost bi-polar! LOL
Anyway, I will call the vet today and see if they can get the ball rolling for fixing her. Gosh, I hope she isn't in heat because I know they have to wait until she is over it.
Thanks for the advice!

It most likely isn't, but they can still spay her if she is going in any way if you really wanted too, but it is easier to wait then IMO

Just called the vet and they said typically a dog is fixed at 5-6 months and that most likely she is too young to be in heat. We will probably do it at 5 months since I do not want to take chances.
Guess that means it's just "puppy love"... :-)
