This is a topic that I've gotten alot of different answers on. Is peanut butter bad for dogs-yes or no  ? I bought these new dog treats, and i know that all of the ingredients are really healthy-except i'm unsure of the peanut butter. It's somewhere in the middle on the list of ingredients.

Peanut butter is a wonderful snack for dogs. But as with all snacks a little goes a long way. There is sugar and fat in the ingredients so I always just let Magic have the end of the jar to clean out. I also use it to plug up the small end of her kong so I can fill it with something wet and put it in the freezer.

:) That's a good idea (the kong). I have to get one of those. But everywhere I've seen them so far they're so expensive-like $20 for one kong. And I can't find one small enough for my doggie. Oh well-I'll find one eventually I'm sure.

And you're right about the peanut butter-I went to the vet today to get Kady her shots and I asked the vet about it. He said pretty much the same thing as you-peanut butter is fine, in moderation. It's high in fat and sugar.

Thanks! ;)

My dogs love peanut butter (I think most dogs do) but some dogs can be allergic to peanuts. It can be fattening so if your dog has any weight issues go lightly. I fill the dog's Kongs or a small hollow marrow bone with it and give as a special treat.

My dogs love Peanut Butter, but Zeus is allergic to it. So after we figured that out no more Peanut Butter.

If you look a the website for jefferspet.com you could probably find a kong there. I have bought some toys and frontline from them. I think that there are a good company.

Peanut butter hmmm....

My dogs love peanut butter, I mean adore it to an infatuation. It has to be between that and ice cubes. :D

But then again everthing in moderation. Peanut butter has a lot of fat so treats are ok, just not all the time.

As for the Kong issue. They make itty bitty Kongs just gotta go hunt. My advice is try hitting a large chain during sale time Petco, Petsmart, they usually go on sale.

They are expensive :( but the good news is that they have a life time warranty. If one cracks or breaks just send it back to Kong and they will give you a new one. My dogs love their Kongs. I have never had one break yet, even some of their smaller ones. We have like 5 Kongs in the house a small fortune spent on Kongs.

1 small (it has pretty colors it is white, blue and red I think it is a puppy Kong)
2 large 1 reg. 1 extra strength (black)
1 Kong cube bone holder
1 Kong Sphere dog bone shape

The dogs love the way they bounce and will hold them for hours in their mouth. One dog always take one to sleep with him.

I always thought dairy was bad for dogs but I was listening to bob and tom show on the raido and they had a dog lady on (tom is a big dog lover) and she was talking about taking the kong, melting cheese in it and then freeze it that way it takes the dog even longer then the peanut butter will.

I am a hum-drum pet mommy......... :( I don't give Magnum peanut butter. In fact, I haven't given Magnum anything since July 15th because I haven't been home since then. Anyway, I have heard quite a few that use peanut butter as a med-sneaker for the doggies........lol. Since Lola had to take meds for her injury a few weeks ago, I decided to try the peanut butter trick........Wow, those pills went down the hatch lickity split........ :D

Bichon, I see you like jeffers........hehehehe

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!

Well, I, on the other hand, would prefer to live a long and healthy life, rather than a shorter or unhealthy life.

I use it occassionally... as ling as it is in moderation I think it is fine... just remember it does have a lot of fat and depending on the brand sugar and salt too.... all natural is a better choice than regular though I've used both

I agree with Patch that all natural is the best form of anything we give our petkids, and using those that are high in calories/fat in moderation is fine. In my humble opinion, whether or not peanut butter is bad for dogs depends on the amount given, allergic possiblilities, the condition of the pet, and if it has added ingredients. ;)

I think the quote is trying to say to live life to the fullest no matter how short or long it is. :)

Moderation, I guess, is the key..Peanut butter has a ton of protein which is good, but also fattening because of the oil part. Per serving normally has 3 grams of sugar, so perhaps choose a no sugar peanut butter, if there is such a thing.:-)Dogs seem to enjoy licking that stuff, so why deprive the little munchkins of the fun. Yeah?

Hello, this is my first post, so I hope I'm doing it correctly. I have read that peanut butter is ok in small quantities, due to the high fat content, but I have an odd situation. Shelby goes for chemotherapy treatments every two weeks, and will not eat anything for a few days, thus losing weight. the only thing I can force her to eat is peanut butter(all natural). Fattening is good, protein is good, but is this one of the foods that dogs are allergic to? I am open to any other suggestions for force feeding( she'll thank me later) ThankYou!

Dogs in general aren't allergic to PB. Maybe Shelby herself is allergic? Have you noticed any negative reaction to her eating the PB?

Peanut loves LOVES Peanut butter. I personally like the kong filler Peanut butter flavored stuff. I stick a little treat and then close up the end. And the kong...pricey? Absolutely. Amazing? Absolutely. That thing keeps him entertained for hours! And I'm pretty sure he's got a short attention span.

Really? I've always thought they were fairly reasonable when you consider how long they can last...although that might not be such a problem with little Peanut!

This is true...His was only about 7 bucks...course it was a little one, and our area is dominated by one pet store so who knows how much they should be, if you get my drift. But I'd buy em even if they broke every week. He gets so excited!

And yes you'd think it wouldn't be a problem with Peanut but I'll tell you...he's 9 pounds and i have to buy him big dog rawhide bones a couple times a month because he's a chewing factory. Oh well..least it's not my pillows, my socks however...I'll bet the person who thought their dryer was eating there socks just had a shih-tzu.

I have to buy the big ones, obviously, and there about $12-$14. Every once in a while Levon will get it into his head that he has to destroy it, but usually I only have to replace one a year.

Urgh! I have four of those chewing factories! Big dog bones are expensive!

I know! The real bones last longer but then he gets that calcium overdrive where his stools are white. Everyone says that's normal but it makes me uncomfortable. :(

I've never seen anything like that before...but my dogs are a lot bigger than Peanut!

yeah that's the hard thing about having a small dog. Like my friend wanted to give him a cookie. But I told her ...32 grams of sugar for a 9 pound dog is a lot more then a 210 pound person...Course I'm diabetic so Peanut has a very low sugar diet, but you have to watch EVERYTHING. Because it's a lot more for him then it is for people, you know?

The white stools are wonderful are you kidding me! I haven't cleaned up dog poop in years thanks to their stools being rock hard, white, and biodegrading in 2-3 days!

Oh and mine don't like kongs... something about rubber I've never had a dog like. However Izzie has a Kong Wubba, it's cute and she carries it around all the time like it's her baby. One thing they all like is peanut butter though... i get the extra creamy stuff and give them a spoonful every once in a while and they just sit there smacking their lips, provides me with long time of entertainment!

I wonder if its the smell? The kong rubber has as odd smell to it that I can't stand, but the dogs don't seem to mind.

Anything rubber... Even the Chewbers they hate... They're quite partial to their raw bones and stuffed animals, and Izzie likes to chase around tennis balls (and yes she carried them around in her mouth, i don't know how but she does! :p

it's scary when even peanut butter isn't safe to eat anymore without risk of death. geeze. we make dog treats for our dogs and our business and to be safe (and more healthy) we make our own peanut butter. if you're looking for safe peanut butter treats you can check out ours at www.spotteddominos.com. (http://store.yahoo.com/cgi-bin/clink?yhst-95969714364462+Eebep3+index.html+) we grind non-salted, dry-roasted peanuts into PB. it's so good we eat it to on our PB&J's! LOL
