When I woke up this morning, my 4 year old border collie began acting very strangely and confused. I took her to the vet, but she could find nothing that might acount for this behavior. It seems my border collie has forgotten what some commands that I give her mean. I tell her to get in her spot and she goes in the opposite direction and acts confused like she doesn't know where she is or what I want her to do. One time she tried to go into a free standing mirror in my bedroom. When I tell her to get into bed, she goes to the wrong side or goes back into the bathroom. At my friend's house today she was on the porch and I was in the yard. When I called her to come to me she ran into the railing and tried to go through it instead of using the stairs. She has never acted this way before. Can someone please tell me if they have heard of this type of memory loss before. Other than this weird behavior when I give her a command to do something she seems totally fine. No loss of appetite, etc.

Hi Igmcgraw and welcome :)

Wow, I've never heard of this before. Did your Vet do bloodwork?.
Could she have eaten a plant or something that could be toxic?. If it continues, I would take her back to the Vet, or take her to another Vet for a second opinion. Best of luck to you and I hope she gets better soon.

Hello.

I was just reading some stuff on ticks and dogs.

I am not sure if your dog could have possibly been in contact wih a tick, but they carry lyme disease and it can cause flu like symptoms as well as neurological probems.

its a long shot but i thought id let ya know.=)

good luck.

As Squawksx3 said, I hope your vet did some blood work on your dog. There could be a lot of reason that your dog is behaving this way ... and it might not always be obvious or visible ... so a complete blood work would be a good idea. Another possible cause could be that your dog suffered from a mini-stroke. If she has some arterial blockage somewhere near her brain, she could've had minimal brain damage from the lack of blood/oxygen in her brain. Please take your dog back to the vet if these symptoms continue. Good Luck and please let us know what happens.

Wow, this almost sounds like she had a stroke? Could that be? Maybe you should get her a second oppion like squawks said I agree with her. I am so sorry this has happened. Please let us know, and good luck to you and your baby.
